WHAT IS SPECIAL
The Ref. 18366 was introduced after Rolex upgraded the Day-Date to the Calibre 3155, ushering the model into the era of double quickset adjustment. As a high-jewellery reference, it inherited the distinctive bezel architecture of the 1980s Ref. 18168, with 24 baguette-cut gemstones set around the dial. Unlike the yellow-gold Ref. 18368, however, the final digit “6” in its reference denotes platinum, making the 18366 an even rarer proposition.
This particular 18366 is Rolex’s vision of a night sky rendered on the Day-Date. Its case is crafted in discreet, understated platinum, while a field of tiny white diamonds spreads across the dial like distant stars. Sapphire hour markers punctuate the surface like brighter celestial bodies, and the clear, architectural baguette-cut diamonds of the bezel form a crystalline frame around the constellation within.
It is a striking departure from the familiar image of the Day-Date as a conservative “President’s Watch.” Instead, it represents a rare aesthetic expression from Rolex’s small-production high-jewellery creations of the 1990s: platinum holding the sun and moon in silence, with a constellation resting on the wrist.
