Patek Philippe "Hour Glass" ref.1593 in Platinum

Patek Philippe introduced the Ref. 1593 in 1944, and production continued until around 1967. Collectors know it as the “Hour Glass,” a name inspired by the way its case flares outward at the lugs before narrowing toward the crown, creating a distinctive hourglass silhouette. The faceted crystal further accentuates the graceful waistline of the case, together forming a sculptural and highly expressive design.

Approximately 1,000 examples of the Ref. 1593 were produced, of which only around one quarter were cased in platinum. As this example demonstrates, platinum versions were often paired with rectangular diamond hour markers, giving the watch a cooler, sharper, and more commanding character.
