Born from the legendary Dakar Rally, the Cartier Cheich was originally conceived as a trophy watch, awarded only to a competitor who won the rally twice consecutively in the same category. After the death of Dakar founder Thierry Sabine, the Cheich disappeared from production and entered Cartier mythology.
Decades later, Cartier revived the design once in white gold, privately commissioned for legendary collector Giorgio Seragnoli. With its sculptural, desert-inspired form and extraordinary provenance, this unique Cheich unites Cartier design, motorsport history, private commission and singular rarity in one irreplaceable object.
PaddleWaves was privileged to become a custodian of this extraordinary piece and to add a new chapter to its history. In September 2026, the white-gold Cheich achieved HK$26.52 million at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, establishing a new world auction record for a Cartier wristwatch.
